Grandpa and Grandma's home in Nebraska ( before they moved to Utah)

This is Grandpa and Grandma's home in Nebraska. The story, as I recall it being told to me, is Grandpa and Grandma moved out to Nebraska after Grandpa got out of the service. They lived here for a few years, before moving to Utah.

The Old Farm House in Nebraska. Jerry said the original burnt down, then was rebuilt with the help of friends and neighbors while they were living in it.

Grave Stones

 

We took off and drove to Sutton and Grafton .

Nice weather long drive,

I found their was a Louis  you was right .. and there was a Louisa as you can see.

The Directory With the sun where it was hard to get a good picture.

Have not been able to contact anyone yet..

I do know that Louis was not Edwards Brother,,  Edward or Grandpa was born in 1899. That would be a hard to spread the kids out that far.

The head stones with Mother and Father.  That is all that is on the stones and on the directory , But with the dates on the stones I am sure there is someone under the stone.

You are the good one ,,,,,,,, you maybe able to find out who they are by the dates,, 

Found no Frederick or William or Willhelm...

Lauenstein Immigration

Jerry and I have been trying to piece together the information we have. This is what we have been able to come up with so far. Grandpa (Clarence) Lauenstein's grandpa, Wilhelm, came to American with his family in 1870 on the SS Frankfurt. They left Germany from Bremen, and arrived in New York in June of that year. The record states they came from Hanover, Germany or from a town close to Hanover. The ship manifest record we found states the names as Friedrich Lauenstein, his wife Luise, their son Wilhelm (Clarence's grandpa), their son Louis, and their daughter Louisa. Wilhelm or William, at that time, was 13 years old.The Shipping record states Friedrich, William's dad, was a weaver by trade.

Bob and Caroline sent us William's obituary that states upon arriving in America, Friedrich and his family settled for a short time in Bureau County, Illinois before finally settling in Nebraska in 1879-1880.

We are still trying to pin down the exact place of origin for Friedrich and his family. We learned that most the Emigration records from Bremen, Germany for that time period were destroyed in WWII. Those records would've listed town of origin. Unfortunately, we may be in it for the long haul. There are still ways to find the information, but it looks like its going to take some time.

Connecting The Dots

There is alot of "Dots" that need to be connected in our Lauenstein/Edmunds family, so we started this blog to help connect some  of "Our Dots." 

We want to keep in touch, share ideas, memories and families. Just little things you remember about mom and dad,  about you/us growing up, funny or sad things.  Anything that will connected us, and keep us connected so that we can pass these stories on to our kids and grandkids. 

Mom was pretty good about telling us some of her stories when she was growing up.  I don't know alot, but I do remember some. But dad wasn't so open. He didn't really tell us about his life or his parents or grandparents, so we really don't know much about them at all (at least I don't). We know they came from Germany, but there are so many names and dates we need to know.  I've written to Elaine to see if she could help with this and also share any stories she may know, but I haven't heard from her and to be honest, I'm not sure I will. Matt is trying to do some genealogy for the Lauenstein's and has found a few names and dates, but not much and is now at a dead end.    Jerry & Matt have been working together also, but they haven't come  up with much together either.  I think this is going to have to be a group effort and I hope we will all jump in so we can all learn more about our ancestors!

So get your memories brushed off and let's begin to have some fun with this.  I know "you're" all getting old,  but let's think hard and get this blog going. I know  our families will benefit the most.
